Week of April 25th
The Second Annual Blue and Gray Intrasquad Meet!
This incredible track meet includes only Georgetown students and is open to any and everyone! So, whether you've been running with us all year or just starting now, we definitely want you to be there. The meet is very low-key and the races are gonna be incredibly fun. The meet will be Saturday, April 30th at 3 pm at the 320 meter track in Burleith. Races offered will be: 1600, 200, 400, 800, 4 lap relay, Racewalk Relay, and 3-Legged Race. If you would like to enter, email Kari Coffman (kec67) by Thursday, April 28th. Let her know what races you would like to run. This meet is great for some fun Hoya competition that won't kill your entire weekend. Check out the Facebook group for event details.
2) Summer Runs
If you're hanging around DC this summer and wondering who you will run with, the running club will be here! If you are interested in having the running club organize runs over the summer, reply to this email and let us know when you are available and what times work best for you. There is no need to go to Yates everyday when you can get some exercise and fresh air. Also, runs will definitely be conducive for your busy internship or whatever you are doing. Let us know how we can make running a part of your summer!
Week of March 14th
1) Grassroots Hoyas 5K
Grassroots Hoyas is a group of Georgetown varsity athletes that goes into DC schools and teaches AIDS awareness through athletics. Washington DC has one of the largest AIDS rates for a city outside of Africa so it is a very important issue. This 5K will be on-campus on Sunday, March 27th at 10 am. The cost is $15 and you can sign up by emailing kam276 or by visiting the table outside of Leo's between 6 and 7 pm March 22 or 26. Here's the Facebook page for more info: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=145809518814843. This will a be not only a great race, but it also benefits a Georgetown student group that's doing awesome things.
2) Danny Curran Invitational @ Widener University
The Danny Curran Invitational will be our first DIII meet of the spring! It will be on Saturday, April 2nd and it will offer a wide range of competition. Don't let the NCAA label intimidate you, it will be a really fun time and, since Widener is just outside Philadelphia, it will be a short day trip. Please contact Tim Dougherty ([email protected]) by Friday, March 25 if you are interested. Events to choose from: 100-200-400-800-1500-3k Steeple-110HH-400H-4x400m Relay. Estimated price: $15-20.
3) Benefitting Back on My Feet: SunTrust National Half/Marathon
This year we are partnering with Back On My Feet--an organization that helps the homeless, well, get back on their feet--in running the Sun Trust Marathon and Half-Marathon. We highly encourage you to donate to this worthwhile cause. Every little bit helps, even as little as a few bucks. Think of the donation as not buying that Vittles snack or that MUG coffee. On top of that, SunTrust will match each and every dollar we donate--so your $5 donation gives $10 to the cause. To donate, visit the website: http://www.active.com/donate/BOMFNATLMARATHON2011/gurc
Week of February 28th
Last chance to sign up for the Penn Relayz! We will be running at the historic Franklin Field located in Philadelphia, PA. The trip offers so many opportunities. You will have a chance to get
off campus, explore a part of Philadelphia, meet new people, but most
importantly you will have a ton of fun. We will leave Georgetown on
Saturday, March 19th in the afternoon. Race at 7:00 pm underneath the
lights, and then return later that night. The trip will cost $10-20.
Please e-mail Jordan Megna (jdm238) by this Friday, March 4th, if you are interested in participating. Remember to include the distances that you would like to run: 200m, 400m, 800m, 1200m, 1600m, Racewalk or wheelbarrow race. Don't worry about signing up for a specific event. We will put together the relays based on the responses that we receive. We encourage you to sign up for multiple events so that we can run as many relays as possible.
Check us out in the Hoya!
The Hoya wrote a really cool article about the Running Club and Social Justice. Check it out at http://www.thehoya.com/news/running-club-adopts-new-focus-1.2038364

Week of February 21st
Upcoming happenings:
1.) Applications for positions other than President and Vice President, are due this Friday, February 25th by 11:59 pm. Those positions include Men's Co-captain, Women's Co-captain, Treasurer, Social Chair and Director of Communications.
2.) Clarification of the Penn Relayz. This event will consist of only relays; however, we ask that you sign up for individual races. It will be easier to create the relay teams this way. Please choose from the following events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1200m, 1600m, racewalk and wheelbarrow race.
With that in mind, we highly encourage you to sign up for multiple races (you can also sign up for the same event twice. Asking to run two 800s would be fine). Relays are awesome and the more events that you sign up for, the more relays we will be able to run. Sign up deadline, as mentioned in the previous e-mail is Friday, March 4th. The meet will cost $10-20.
Please don't be discouraged from signing up. Don't let feeling out of shape or thinking you might let your relay team down stop you. Without you we would not be able to run that relay. The idea is to get as many people to the Relayz as possible. The meet is also on the chill side (I mean they have a 4x400 racewalk and a wheelbarrow race). It should be a good time. To iron out a few more details, the order of events is listed below.
4x1600m
4x100m,
4x800m
DMR (1200, 400, 800, 1600)
SMR (400, 200, 200, 800)
4x400m
4x400m RACEWALK
100-yd Wheelbarrow Race

Week of January 24th
Thanks for all those that came out to the meeting last week and to the first run on Friday. It was awesome to see so many people at the run.
For those that missed the meeting, we encourage you to come to any of the runs and get to know the club. The practice schedule can be found here. Also, the info sheet we handed out at the meeting is attached to this e-mail. It details all the events of the spring semester. Although it's still cold outside, don't let the weather intimidate you. Come out for a nice winter run.
Upcoming Schedule:
Wednesday, February, 2nd - We will be having a guest speaker from Back on my feet, an organization that helps empower and give hope to homeless men. The speaker will be one of the men whose life has been positively influenced by BOMF. This event should be a great opportunity to see first hand how BOMF works. For those interested in social justice, this should be a great experience.
If you are interested in competing in the club please turn in your dues and waiver as soon as possible. The deadline for those two items is Friday, February 4th. If you have already handed in a waiver and dues, you are set; you don't have to hand in another waiver or pay anymore dues. Attached is a copy of the waiver.
Our first meet is on Saturday, February 19th, so keep that date in mind if you would like to compete. The track meet will be held in West Potamac Park and it will be a great way to start of the spring semester. More info will be on the way.
Sprinters! If you are a sprinter or you are interested in competing in sprinting events during the year there are sprint workouts every Monday and Thursday at 6:00pm. Please contact Mollie Brick ([email protected]) for more info.

There will be runs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, but no run Sunday, December 12th or the rest of the semester because of finals. If you would still like to run with a group over exams (definitely a nice study break) please e-mail me and I will try to get you in touch with other people who will be running on their own.

Week of November 29th
Hope everyone had a relaxing break!
Georgetown basketball is amazing. The game tonight was unreal. Back to club info...
Final Race
Our final race of the season will be the Jingle all the Way 10k, which will be held Sunday, December 12th. This is a great road race. Each participant receives jingle bells that they attach to his/her shoes. As the waves of runners pass, the ringing of jingle bells can constantly be heard. Last year over 10,000 people ran in the event! If you are interested in participating please e-mail Maureen McCarthy (mem268) by this Friday, December 5th.
Newsletter
This year we are putting together a Newsletter for current members and alumni of the club. It will consist of articles, pictures and it will give an overview of the 2010 season. We need your help! If you would like to assist with the newsletter in any way (such as writing an article, designing the layout, etc.), please e-mail Matt Chung ([email protected]) by this Friday, December 5th.

Week of November 15th
Thanks to all those that traveled with us to Indiana this weekend. The 22 hours in the car were rough but so worth it! The guys placed 17th out of 35 and the ladies placed 8th in the nation! Special props to Jordan Megna, who placed 15th in the men's race earning 1st team All-American status and to Carrie Fahey and Maureen McCarthy who placed 18th and 27th respectively and earned second team All-American status. To see complete results click here. Next year Nationals will be held in North Carolina.
Week of November 1st
Weekly News:
1) Looking towards December (it's not too far off), keep your calenders open for the Jingle all the Way 10k, on December 12th. This is a fun DC road race that goes through West Potomac Park. Most competitors wear jingle bells on their shoes, creating a wave of jingling as the thousands of runners race by. More info will be coming out over the next few weeks.
2) Below is an announcement from Alyssa Huberts about a really cool event happening on campus this Thursday, November 4th:
My name is Alyssa Huberts, and along with Gavin Laughlin, I’m coordinating the official kickoff for the Hoya Soxa Sock Drive: Barefoot Day 2010. Hoya Soxa is an organization on campus that’s putting on a sock drive for DC’s homeless. Talking to homeless people at the beginning of this year, we heard from them that they always need a fresh pair of socks- in fact, most homeless people wear through a pair of running shoes in just 6-8 weeks because they do so much walking. To raise awareness for the sock drive, this Thursday, November 4th, Hoya Soxa isgoing to be holding Barefoot Day- an opportunity to spend a day walking in someone else’s lack of shoes. It’s fairly simple- we’re going to spend all day without shoes (either barefoot or wearing just socks) in order to draw attention to the wear and tear that goes into a day of walking.
♫ If you’re interested in helping, there are a few things you can do. First, participate!!!! You’ll be able to pick up a nametag and flier at our table in front of Leo’s next week, or you can just print them off here from the email. Then, all you have to do go barefoot! It’s a small sacrifice, but it’ll go a long way in encouraging people to donate socks. If you would like to sign up or you have any other questions you can email me at [email protected].
Sick workout for all those who went to the run on Monday... 20x400s is insane.

Also, the Ragnar Relay is coming up on September 24 and 25. Back on My Feet gets $120 per volunteer. I know its homecoming weekend, but if you're interested in volunteering, let us know. More info here: http://dc.backonmyfeet.org/sign-up-today-to-volunteer-for-ragnar-relay-dc.html (side note: they will be throwing a free happy hour for volunteers over 21)
185 for Heroes was a huge success! Thanks to everyone for coming out and running the final few miles with Clay and Ashely. They really appreciated the extra support coming through the home stretch.
