The Week of May 14th
1) Summer by GRC
If you're summering in The District and want to get back in shape or stay in shape, GRC is here to help you out! As you figure out your summer work/class schedule, fill out this spreadsheet with the possible times that you can run during the week. Chances are, there'll be someone on the spreadsheet that can run when you can during the week. We'll send out an email and try to coordinate group runs the best that we can, but we encourage you to reach out and connect with everyone still on campus on your own.
2) The Color Run
The District is playing host to the most innovative run ever: The Color Run. Basically, it's a combination of Dayglow and running. People along the route throw paint on the runners which is completely awesome if you didn't already know. These people are certainly having a ton of fun and we can definitely join them. You can sign up here either for September 9th or October 21st.
3) Tell us about your Summer!
Let us know about your awesome summer adventures by tweeting @rungrc or posting on our Hoyalink page. If you're not on Hoyalink, log in with your Netid. We'll primarily be using Hoyalink to communicate with the club come the fall.

The Week of March 19
1) 185 For Heroes Re-launching Event: As some of you may know, GRC partners with 185 for Heroes each fall, a group that organizes a 7 day, 185 mile race along the C&O Canal in support of wounded veterans. The race comes to an end on the Front Lawn Sep. 11, and this fall we're aiming to get the larger Georgetown community involved. OnTuesday, April 17, from 7-9 PM, 185 for heroes is hosting a re-launching event in McNeir that will feature speakers and veterans, and also provide further information. Our goal is to fill the auditorium, so come and bring your friends! This will be a great way to get people excited early on and should help make next fall a big success. Email Tim Dougherty (tpd28) for more information.
2) Club Formal: This year CSP is hosting a formal for all those participating in club sports. The date is Saturday, April 14, and we have 30 tickets that will be given out on a first come first serve basis. The details are a bit up in the air at this point, but email Corey Blaine (cbc42) if you're interested. I'm personally super pumped for this.
3) BOMF Run: The first Back on My Feet Run of this semester will take place on Wednesday, March 28. We'll leave promptly at 5:25 AM from the front gates. This a great chance to give back to the community, and email Tim Dougherty (tpd28) if you are interested.
4) Run For a Dream: This final event might be a great opportunity to unwind after the semester ends. On May 19th the Run for a Dream half marathon, 8k and 5k will be held in Colonial Williamsburg. With the purchase of a race bib participants receive a free pass to Bush Gardens as well as a free Colonial Williamsburg ticket. We are trying to gauge interest for this event. This would be a cool getaway with friends from Georgetown before the summer officially begins. Check out http://www.runforachievabledream.com/. Please e-mail Tim Dougherty (tpd28) if you are interested.

It is due on Monday, March 20th by 12:00 pm to Sean Gallagher (spg26). This is a great way to get involved in some of the behind the scenes work that allows our club to exist and get funding. Also, the board is planning a Club Sports Formal so if you are interested in attending, please let any board member know.

The Week of February 6th
1) Officer Applications
The GRC Board is looking for some fresh faces and fresh ideas to reinvigorate the club for the spring semester! Every board position is up for transition and do not let inexperience be a hindrance. If you want to give back and are passionate about this club, you should definitely consider applying. The time commitment is very minimal; basically, all you have to do is to continue to run! If you are interested in President or Vice-President, please submit your application by Friday, February 10th. If you are interested in co-captain, director of communications, treasurer, or social chair, please apply by Friday, February 17th. If you would like to submit an application or if you have any quesions, please email jdm238. Definitely talk to any of the board members at any of the upcoming runs if you want more information.
2) Weekly Social Events
The GRC has always had weekly post-run socials, but we're now making them official! After the work-out on Monday, we will go to Qdoba to take advantage of their half-priced Monday deal. If you cannot make the workout, but want to join the team for dinner, we will be there from around 7:15-8:15. After the run on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we will be meeting at Leo's for dinner. If you cannot make the run on that day, feel free to meet the team at Leo's around an hour after the run begins for that day.

If you have been waiting to get new shoes or to winterize your running apparel, now is the time! We will be heading over to the running company after the Thursday evening workout. Even if you cannot make the workout, come to the running company for some dinner and some sales!
The Week of October 17th
NIRCA Regionals
This year, the GRC is attending the NIRCA (National Intercollegiate Running Club Association) meet for the mid-Atlantic region. We will be racing at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, PA Saturday, October 29th. There will be running clubs from all over the east coast and this is a great time to get a small preview of Nationals competition. Girls will run a 6K and boys will run an 8K. If you are interested in racing, email Tim Dougherty at tpd28 by this Friday, October 21st. Just a note: this is not a qualifier for Nationals! If you cannot race at Regionals you can still compete at Nationals.
Homecoming Hilltop 5K
Come out and support the track team and get Homecoming 2011 started off right! The Homecoming Hilltop 5K is this Saturday, October 22nd. Although online registration has closed, there will be race day registration starting at 8 am in Red Square. The race will begin at 9 am with a warmup at 8:15 am. This is a great event with some awesome prizes and a very nice tech shirt that you receive just for signing up! While we encourage you to sign up, the GRC will not be covering this race with dues so you must sign up on your own. However, do not forget to wear you singlet and make a statement on Saturday!
NIRCA Nationals!!!
This is the most anticipated race of the year! This year, NIRCA Nationals will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina at McAlpine Creek Park (the site of the Foot Locker South Regional meet). We will be leaving Friday, November 11th and returning Sunday, November 13th. You will be excused from your Friday classes by the University. Over 40 collegiate club teams will be there as well as our number 5 girls team! The weekend is a great chance to race and bond with the team as well as meet other runners from across the country. If you are interested, email Jordan Megna at jdm238 by Friday, October 28th.
BOMF (Back on my Feet) Run
Our next BOMF run will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd. We will leave the front gates at 5:15 am sharp to run with highly motivated homeless men in the District. Our last run was a great success and we had a lot of fun! This is a great way to get involved with the community and see a different side of DC. Also, sitting at the Varsity Athlete table at Leo's post-run is pretty awesome! If you are interested, email Tim Dougherty at tpd28. Just a note: on BOMF days, the official Wednesday morning run will be preempted. However, you are highly encouraged to meet and run at that time and throughout the day.

Dues, Waivers, and Gear
Your running club dues, waivers, and gear order forms are due Thursday, September 15th. You can give them to any of the officers at any of the runs this week. Also, if you cannot make it to the runs, Charlie Smalling (Treasurer) will be sitting in Copley Hall G17 Thursday afternoon from 2:00 pm until the run. You can drop off your forms there. The dues are utilized to offset race costs, transportation, and car rental fees. We also use the dues in other capacities to keep the club running smoothly. If you plan on competing, you must hand in dues and the waiver; it is also highly suggested that you get a uniform. If you do not plan on competing, you must still fill out a waiver to continue running with the team. If you need the forms, they are attached to this email or you can access them on the website.
The First Meet!
Our first meet is coming up Saturday, September 24th. It is the Dickinson Long Short Invitational. You may choose the distance which you would like to run: girls can choose either a 4K (2.48 miles) or a 6K (3.72 miles) and guys can choose either a 4K (2.48 miles) or an 8K (4.97 miles). We will be traveling to Dickinson College which is not far from Philadelphia, PA on Saturday morning. We will race, get some lunch, and return to Georgetown. We should be back on campus by early/mid afternoon. This is a D3 race, but that only means that the competition will push you to a new level of excellence. D3 runners are not that good and after our workout on Monday, I know that our club has what it takes to more than compete with the other teams. Whether you are just getting back into shape or ready to compete, this is a great opportunity to travel with the team and choose your own race. Email Tim Dougherty at tpd28 by Friday, September 16th if you are interested in competing. The cost will probably be around $10.
Night at the Monuments
This Friday, September 16th is our first annual night run to the monuments! We will be leisurely viewing all of our nations greatest treasures the way they are meant to be seen: under the lights! We will be meeting at the statue at 7:30 pm and setting off on our tour. Immediately following the sojourn we will be having our first fun social gathering of the year! There will be no afternoon run on Friday. This unique experience is one time only and the course has been personally tested and perfected by running club's finest. Don't miss this singular opportunity!
BOMF!
Back on My Feet (aka BOMF) is an organization that uses running to empower the homeless. Runners run with homeless men in many US cities and use those runs to empower and encourage them to, quite literally, get back on their feet. We ran with this organization last year and it was a great success as well as a lot of fun. This year, we will be running with BOMF on the last Wednesday of every month and we will be starting this up on Wednesday, September 28th. We will be leaving campus at 5:20 am and will be back for the opening of Leo's. There are only 12 spots on the van and it is first-come-first-serve. Email Tim Dougherty at tpd28 by Friday, September 16th if you are interested in going.
